What to Expect

Daocheng Yading Scenic Area is a world-famous alpine scenic area located in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, western Sichuan Province, often called the “Soul of Shangri-La” for its breathtaking natural beauty. Situated on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with an average altitude of 4,000 meters, the scenic area is centered around three sacred snow-capped mountains (Jampayang, Chenrezig, and Chanadorje) and three glacial lakes (Pearl Lake, Milk Lake, and Five-Color Lake). The area is known for its pristine natural environment – snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, alpine meadows, and dense forests – making it a paradise for hikers and nature photographers. Daocheng Yading is also of great cultural significance to local Tibetans, who consider the three mountains as sacred. Due to its remote location and high altitude, it requires careful planning, but the stunning scenery makes it one of the most sought-after destinations in western Sichuan, best visited from April to November.
