What to Expect

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is China’s most famous panda conservation center and a highlight of almost every Chengdu itinerary. Located on the outskirts of the city, it provides a semi-natural habitat for giant pandas, red pandas, and other rare species while supporting important research and breeding programs.

Visitors can walk along tree-lined paths to observe pandas at different life stages, from playful cubs to adult bears enjoying bamboo or resting in the shade. The base also includes educational exhibits on conservation, a panda museum, and viewing areas for red pandas and other animals.

Because the pandas are most active in the morning, many tours visit the base early in the day before continuing to other Chengdu attractions, such as local markets, tea houses, or nearby cultural sites. It is an ideal stop for families, wildlife lovers, and first-time travelers to China.
