Overview
What to Expect
Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Sichuan, famous for its crystal‑clear turquoise lakes, multi‑layered waterfalls and seasonal colors. The name “Jiuzhaigou” means “Nine Village Valley” and reflects its Tibetan culture and mountain setting.
Wooden boardwalks and eco‑buses connect the main scenic areas, so you can enjoy the views at your own pace. Spring brings fresh greens and wildflowers, summer is lush and cool, autumn is spectacular with golden and red forests, and winter can be wonderfully quiet with snow‑dusted scenery.
Jiuzhaigou is often combined with Huanglong National Park or other Sichuan highlights such as Chengdu pandas and Leshan Giant Buddha for a well‑rounded China trip.

Crystal-clear alpine lakes in shades of turquoise, emerald, and sapphire, reflecting mountains and forests like mirrors.

Multi-tier waterfalls such as Nuorilang and Pearl Shoal cascading through pristine, forested valleys.

Snow-capped peaks above 4,000 meters, forming dramatic backdrops and adding a high-alpine feel.

Fairy-tale autumn colors, with red, gold, and orange leaves glowing around the bright blue lakes.

Tibetan village culture, featuring wooden houses, prayer flags, and traditional mountain life harmonized with nature.

Four-season beauty, from spring blossoms to summer greens, glowing autumn forests, and peaceful winter landscapes.

Suggested Itinerary
- Morning – Rize Valley
Take the eco‑bus towards the upper Rize Valley and walk or bus between highlights such as Arrow Bamboo Lake, Panda Lake and Five Flower Lake. - Midday – Nuorilang Waterfall
Enjoy the wide multi‑step waterfall and have lunch at the service area. - Afternoon – Shuzheng Valley
Walk down through the Shuzheng Lakes, Rhino Lake and Reed Lake, taking photos on the lakeside boardwalks before exiting the park.
2‑Day Option: spread the route over two days, add more walking sections, and combine Jiuzhaigou with Huanglong for a fuller experience.
How to Get to Jiuzhaigou Valley
- By air: fly to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport from Chengdu, Chongqing or other cities, then drive about 1–1.5 hours to Jiuzhaigou town.
- By road from Chengdu: long‑distance buses and private vehicles take around 8–10 hours through mountain roads. This option offers scenic views but requires a full travel day.
We normally recommend flying in and out when possible, or using a private car with experienced driver for a safer and more comfortable journey.
Travel Tips
- Altitude: Jiuzhaigou is higher than Chengdu; some visitors may feel mild altitude effects. Walk slowly, stay warm and drink plenty of water.
- Weather & clothing: mornings and evenings can be cool even in summer. Bring layers, a light rain jacket and comfortable walking shoes.
- Avoid peak holidays: Golden Week (around 1 October) and major Chinese holidays can be extremely crowded. If your dates are flexible, we’ll suggest quieter days.
- Follow park rules: drones, off‑trail hiking and swimming in the lakes are not allowed to protect the fragile environment.
